Henrik Böhmer & Sigrid Ilsoe, from Denmark have kindly sent us their trip report of a week in Madeira in December 2008. We have selected the information and published only the unusual or vagrant birds sightings:

18th Dec.
Ponta do Pargo:
Red-legged partridge 7 (on the cliff), Hoopoe 2, Skylark 6, Black Redstart 1, Rock sparrow 10.

Ribeiro da Vaca:
Plain swift 100+.

Ribeira da Janela:
Teal 1, Green-winged teal 1, Mallard 6, Common sandpiper 1, Glaucous gull 1 1cy with Yellow-legged gulls on the cliffs just off-shore (picture by Henrik Böhmer)

19th Dec.
Encumeada:
Plain swift 30, Pallid swift 1.

Lido, Funchal:
Little shearwater 7 migr. E approx. one hour before sunset.

20th Dec.
Lido, Funchal (in the morning):
Little shearwater 1 migr. W, Gannet 1 1cy migr. W

21st Dec.
Lido, Funchal (in the morning):
Little shearwater 1 migr. E, Black redstart 1, Chiffchaff 1, Hooded crow ssp. sardonius 1.
