A big pelagic for the Western Palearctic Big Year team

What a Zino's Petrel Pelagic Expedition!!!! There was no better way to end 2017 Wind Birds' pelagic expeditions! We had them all, the expected and the non expected seabird species! Great views of the very rare Barolo's shearwater and White-faced storm petrels which did not migrate yet and fed from the chum slick! The team that are doing the Western Palearctic Big Year got at least 7 new species to add to their list!

23rd August 2017 - Northeast wind up to 12 knots and waves up to 1.5 meters from the same direction

3 Fea's Petrel Pterodroma feae/deserta - 2 on the way and 1 on the chum
5 Pterodroma sp. on the way up, too far to ID
5 Long-tailed Jaeger Stercorarius longicaudus

24th August 2017 - Northeast wind up to 17 knots and northeast swell up to 1.5 meters, rough as the storm-petrels like it!
3 Pterodroma sp. on the way up
2 Barolo's shearwater Puffinus baroli - 1 on the way up and another close to the chumming area
2 White-faced Storm Petrel Pelagodroma marina hypoleuca
At least 15 Madeiran Storm Petrel Oceanodroma castro - 6 at the same time on the chum slick
3 Great shearwater Puffinus gravis
2 Leach's Storm-petrel Oceanodroma leucorhoa

25th August 2017 - A very calm day... Wind did not blow more than 6 knots and waves were only up to 0.5 meter, both from northeast
5 Fea's Petrel Pterodroma feae/deserta - 4 on the way up and 1 on the chum slick
2 Manx shearwater Puffinus puffinus
11 Long-tailed Jaeger Stercorarius longicaudus - 3 on the way up and the rest close to the chumming area
7 Arctic tern Sterna paradisaea
