On the 27th of April 2006
"Just to say what a good day we had with Lourenço last Thursday. We had a very good introduction to both the birds and vegetation of Madeira.
Please tell Lourenco that we returned to Lugar de Baixo on Monday 1st May and a Bar Tailed Godwit was there again, together with 8 Dunlin and a Curlew Sandpiper among them. At Sao Vicente(on 1st May) and Sao Jorge Calhau(2 May) we saw a single Whimbrel, the one at Sao Vicente very clearly on the grass near the sea. Each evening offshore at Sao Vicente (30 April, 1 and 2 May) we watched large numbers of Shearwaters, probably upto 50 on one of the days, flying around and settling on the sea . They looked like Manx Shearwaters - is this possible?
Thanks again for organising a good trip."
